Due to an unknown congenital anomaly, our son Max is missing 35 genes on one chromosome. Those missing genes cause cognitive disability, as well as an absence of critical hormones controlling Max's metabolism and appetite, the regulation of his body temperature, his muscle coordination, his speech, his thyroid, his ability to regulate his body's sodium level, his ability to stop bleeding, his emotional regulation and his ability to withstand illness and physical shocks to his body.
Just this year we learned that Max does not have sufficient antibody levels to protect him from bacterial, viral and fungal infections. He now needs to undergo monthly antibody infusions to help protect his body.
In short, everyday life is a challenge for Max.
That's why the programs and friends he has through the Friendship Circle are a vital part of his life.
